Green belt alteration not disproportionate

An application to retain an existing covered walkway between a dwelling and outbuilding in the Green Belt received a thumbs up from the planning committee this week. The walkway pre-dated a side two-storey extension granted under a recent permission, but in order to satisfy strict rules in respect of increases to residential floorspace in the Green Belt, the permission required its removal – all except for a single wall to remain as an enclosure. CN Planning successfully argued that the harm to Green Belt would be no different whether the roof remained or not, with such policy couched in the concept of openness – or absence of development. Given the walkway would remain behind the wall, albeit not covered, the proposal to retain was found to be appropriate.
